Happy Birthday Greta

March 10, 2013

My dear Greta,

You turned 1 over a month ago now and I finally found a moment to sit down to post some photos and write to you! I'm sorry honey but thank you for being so understanding. :) I know you will be OK with this tardiness...it's part of who you are - forgiving and patient. This past year has been a rollercoaster as our little family endured some of the biggest changes and challenges we have ever faced. From the moment you came into our lives though, you have been our constant sunshine and you have brought us so much peace. It's pretty crazy how life can completely catch you off-guard and then you look at your kids and they help bring you back to solid ground...and they make you smile. Every single day I am smiling because of you sweet Greta.

You are walking all over the place now and trying desperately to keep up with your brother. It brings me so much joy to see the two of you play and laugh together. Now, don't get me wrong, it isn't always peachy between the two of you, but let me tell ya, I hold on dearly to those happy moments. :) You love your mommy but I think you are becoming a daddy's girl, as the moment he walks in the door you squeal and get over to him as fast as you can. Witnessing that is one of my favorite moments of the day. :)

How a full year since your birth has already gone by, I will never know. I do hope that this year is a bit more calm...though I have a feeling that might be just wishful thinking. :) I love you more than you will ever know sweet daughter of mine.

Happy Birthday

Love,
your mom

Thankfully, Alex still thinks I'm funny too :)

Greta - 6 months

August 2, 2012

My sweet baby girl is already 6 months old. Where has half of an entire year gone?? Since her birth, our lives have been twirled around, flipped upside down and dunked under water about 100 times it seems. I pray that the next 6 months are a bit more stable, and a little bit slower ... but oh how thankful I am for our two precious children who have kept us laughing and loving them more with each passing day. Our hearts are so full.

Greta is extraordinary. We couldn't ask for a sweeter little girl...a little girl who has the biggest smile, the most beautiful eyes and such a gentle disposition. My heart overflows with love for our little lady...how we got so lucky, I will never know. We are so very blessed.

We love you so much sweet baby Greta. Happy 6-month birthday.

1,700 Miles

April 27, 2012

I've written this post 100 times in my head but have no idea how to start it. Writing about it here makes it real...that, and the "For Sale" sign in our yard. My little family is going to be embarking on an adventure - one that I didn't see coming pre-Greta's birth, but one that I know whole-heartedly is the right thing for our family.

We're moving to Seattle.

There, I said it...(and here come the butterflies)

I'm so excited. I can't wait to shop for fresh salmon at Pike's Place Market; to camp in the mountains with my family; to see the look on the kid's faces when we feed the seagulls from a pier; to run on the beach & find seashells with Alex & Greta, to smell that fresh mountain air that makes you want to breathe in as much as your lungs can hold; to take in sights that leave you in wonder...I love Washington. I was born there and although my parents moved us to MN when I was very young, the area has always held a special place in my heart. It will be so good to be back.

With all of this to look forward to, of course I'm incredibly sad to leave Minnesota. Everything that I know is here - mainly my dear family & friends. The thought of leaving them, well, it will probably be one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I know we'll be back frequently though and I have high hopes that we'll have visitors in Seattle. As it turns out, it only takes just over 3 hours to fly 1,700 miles - piece of cake! :)

As for my photography, I'll be flying back to shoot the weddings I have booked of course. In Washington, I hope to take some time to get back to photographing nature - something I have put on the back-burner simply because I have lacked time. Being in nature with my camera lights me on fire and I can't wait to feel that way again. As for weddings and family shoots - stay tuned. I plan on settling into West coast life with my family first and taking it from there. :)

And because it just doesn't seem right to not include a photo, here's one I took at the market in Seattle a few years ago. :)
