1,700 Miles

April 27, 2012 Personal

I've written this post 100 times in my head but have no idea how to start it. Writing about it here makes it real...that, and the "For Sale" sign in our yard. My little family is going to be embarking on an adventure - one that I didn't see coming pre-Greta's birth, but one that I know whole-heartedly is the right thing for our family.
We're moving to Seattle.
There, I said it...(and here come the butterflies)
I'm so excited. I can't wait to shop for fresh salmon at Pike's Place Market; to camp in the mountains with my family; to see the look on the kid's faces when we feed the seagulls from a pier; to run on the beach & find seashells with Alex & Greta, to smell that fresh mountain air that makes you want to breathe in as much as your lungs can hold; to take in sights that leave you in wonder...I love Washington. I was born there and although my parents moved us to MN when I was very young, the area has always held a special place in my heart. It will be so good to be back.
With all of this to look forward to, of course I'm incredibly sad to leave Minnesota. Everything that I know is here - mainly my dear family & friends. The thought of leaving them, well, it will probably be one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I know we'll be back frequently though and I have high hopes that we'll have visitors in Seattle. As it turns out, it only takes just over 3 hours to fly 1,700 miles - piece of cake! :)
As for my photography, I'll be flying back to shoot the weddings I have booked of course. In Washington, I hope to take some time to get back to photographing nature - something I have put on the back-burner simply because I have lacked time. Being in nature with my camera lights me on fire and I can't wait to feel that way again. As for weddings and family shoots - stay tuned. I plan on settling into West coast life with my family first and taking it from there. :)
And because it just doesn't seem right to not include a photo, here's one I took at the market in Seattle a few years ago. :) |

Our daughter, Greta Suzanne

February 15, 2012 Personal

On February 2nd my life was transformed once again as our little girl made her way into the world. At 10:01 a.m. time stood still for us as we heard her immediate cries followed by a long peaceful moment as we met one another. Her Daddy's eyes filled with tears and I beamed from ear to ear as her beautiful big eyes stared right into mine. It was as if we already knew one another.
Since Greta's birth, somehow we have not skipped a beat. She's so brand new, yet at the same time it's as if she's always been a part of our family. Every day I'm in disbelief about how mellow...and dare I say, "easy", Greta is. In fact the other day I told her that it would be OK if she cried a little more. :) As for Greta's big brother Alexander, we couldn't be more proud of our little guy. He is so incredibly gentle with his sister and has such a sweet, tender heart. At times, if Greta is crying, Alex will lower his head and big alligator tears will fall from his eyes. He doesn't like it when she's sad...like I said, he is so tender-hearted.
Hearing Alex's big belly laughs throughout the house with Greta's soft breathing as she lays on my chest ... well, there's nothing in the world like it. My heart doubled in size on February 2nd and feels a joy that I know will just continue to grow.
Welcome to the world sweet Greta! We will surround you in our family's love forever. |

Alex was outstanding meeting Greta, but was also quite focused on escaping from the hospital room. :)
(And yes, his hair is quite outstanding as well) :) |

| Alex has been nothing but gentle and loving towards his little sister |
